Nutriton Plus industry comparison

Fun fact: did you know Nutrition Plus was created by ranchers, for ranchers? Our products are rancher-tested before placed on the market because we’re branded with quality in mind.

NutriGel Plus is one of our lesser known products that has recently taken the spotlight with our customers as a product that is truly designed for all cattlemen. Packaged with our customers in mind, NutriGel Plus is available in two different size tubes: 320cc and 80cc. The 320cc is used with a hook and gun, great for running cattle through the chute or in the branding pen. The 80cc tube is a dial-a-dose-style tube that is small and highly portable- great for throwing in your saddle bag, in the show box, or keeping in the pickup. The gel-like substance increases absorption and is loaded with amino acids, vitamins, and minerals giving your cattle the added boost needed to gain weight, breed back, or to help sick ones bounce back.

To provide an across-the-board breakdown of how our products may fit best in your mineral program, we’ve broken down the importance of nutrition based on each segment of the beef industry.

Feedlot:

Research performed directly compared the effects of complex and amino acid-chelated minerals sources on the health and performance of newly received, high-risk feedlot calves.

Feeding proteinated trace minerals to high-risk calves under conditions similar to the current study resulted in reduced morbidity and mortality due to Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) as compared with feeding inorganic trace minerals. Research results suggest that an amino acid-chelated mineral program could be more efficacious than a complexed mineral program for improving health and immunity in high-risk feedlot calves.

Cow-calf:

Maintenance, growth, lactation, reproduction and animal health cannot be optimized where mineral intake is not properly balanced, specifically in a cow-calf operation.

Nutritional management during gestation is critical to optimize the efficiency and profitability of beef production systems. Given the essentiality of trace minerals to fetal developmental processes, their supplementation represents one approach to optimize offspring product. Collectively, research demonstrates supplementing trace minerals to gestating beef cows may be a strategy to enhance offspring productivity in beef production systems.

Stocker calves:

BRD is well established as the major source of lost income in the post weaning segment of the beef industry. The immune system of newly received calves is often extremely susceptible, due to both stress from weaning and transportation, and exposure to new diseases during that weaning and transportation process. It has been well established that both of these interact with nutrition, both previous and current.

The receiving phase offers unique nutritional challenges as compared to other phases of a calf’s life. Proper nutritional management during this phase is critical to ensuring success and profitability. These calves are often stressed upon arrival and will likely have low feed and water intake for several days after arrival. This is important when considering mineral consumption during the receiving period.

Minerals can come in a variety of forms for the stocker operation. They may be fed as loose mineral, as part of a complete diet, or separately in a tub form. Deciding which form of mineral to select is highly dependent upon the type of cattle and the operation’s needs.

Stock Show:

Showmanship is more than just entering the ring on showday. It is everything you have done up to that point, including working with livestock when they undergo stressful situations like halter breaking, traveling, being in loud barns and more. Research shows stress negatively affects the gut barrier, thus allowing pathogens to invade. A showman can be proactive about their cattle’s stress by packing the NutriGel Plus in the showbox.

Everyone struggles with it – keeping nutrition dialed in while performing during shows is key for overall livestock health. NutriGel Plus is also known for helping cattle stay on feed during showtime. When evaluating changes in livestock’s feed routine, consider giving them a boost with NutriGel Plus.
